Toulouse and Canada: economic partners

A range of economic sectors bring Toulouse and Canada together in the fields of Aerospace, Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare, to name a few. This relationship and its ensuing exchanges are set to be boosted further by the arrival of Air Canada in June 2020.

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs had already approved the proposed innovation platform between Toulouse and Montreal, in the aerospace and digital sectors, subsidised by the France-Quebec decentralised cooperation fund (FFQCD). This subsidy was used to organise the first two conferences on Artificial Intelligence (AI), the goal of which was to bring together companies from the aerospace and digital sectors, on 16 and 17 May 2019 in Montreal, and in 2020 in Toulouse.

“Toulouse Métropole and Grand Montréal have a lot in common in terms of economic development: a highly visible aerospace industry (boosted by the headquarters of Bombardier) and the importance of the life sciences (over 56,000 jobs). Montreal is also one of the world’s leading hubs in the AI field. Thanks to this call for projects and the ties we are creating, we foster exchanges and synergies between our booming ecosystems, which are vectors of our future growth,” said Jean-Luc Moudenc, President of Toulouse Métropole and Mayor of Toulouse, to mark the occasion.

Toulouse has once again demonstrated how attractive it is to Canadian companies, particularly those in the aerospace industry. The Canadian firm Global Partner Solutions, specialised in supply chain management, announced the creation of its first European site in Toulouse. In parallel, Canadian teams from PCM Innovation have developed a joint venture with Corima Technologies to create a design office devoted to tooling for aerospace.
