The European Space Agency (ESA) has selected Airbus Defence and Space, based in Toulouse and ranked second in the worldwide space industry sector, as the prime contractor for the development and construction of the JUICE satellite (JUpiter ICy moons Explorer).

The satellite’s mission will be to search for conditions capable of sustaining life out there in the solar system, namely on the icy moons of gas giant Jupiter. Airbus Defence and Space will call upon the expertise it has developed at its sites in Toulouse, Friedrichshafen (Germany), Stevenage (UK) and Madrid. A heady €350 million contract, slated for launch in 2022.
